Is it possible to trigger a drop down menu or knob value via midi key input?

Is there a way to trigger a different selection / value from a drop down menu or a knob value (or even a whole preset change?) by assigning a midi key or button to trigger?

i think the answer is yes

a note on via midi can bee seen as a button click. it can have the binding as a button.

and here for the binding

may be you take the boilerplate and tune this to your needs, though there is no button but you can "steal" a button here
