Hi David,

I make large Kontakt Libraries and have followed your progress and some of your lessons (thanks for that). I love the concept of Decent Sampler. Could I put forward a couple of ideas that would give Decent Sampler a good fighting chance against Kontakt Player format.

1: Sample Start parameter adjustments via say Velocity. For me this is one of the best tools for sound creation using synthesis.

2: A Hi Pass filter for the Delay. it was my biggest gripe with Kontakt having all that low end boom flying around on Delay. Hi Pass is essential for any Delay fx.

3: Transposition encoding quality options. Aliasing is most definitely the enemy for high frequency content when being transposed up.

I saw this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoI72uGVPzQ and the guy had a great auto conversion tool from .esx to Decent Sampler. I don't suppose you have access to that.

Excuse all the points, but I am excited by your adventure with this as Kontakt Player has been hard work with all the expensive licensing etc.

Thanks for your message! I'll answer it point by point:

#1: I've often toyed with the idea of having the sample start be changeable via modulation. The reason it's not in the sampler right now is that in "disk streaming" mode, only the very beginning of the samplers are cached in memory. Being able to modulate the start time would require a large portion of the sample to be in memory. The solution would be to have a preset mode where content authors can flag certain groups or certain samples as needing to be loaded into memory (the way Kontakt does with its Sampler vs DFD distinction).

I'd be curious to hear how you're actually using this modulation?

#2: Yes! I've just added it to the feature backlog

#3: I agree with this, although I have to wait until I'm done with the basic sample editor and LFOs before I tackle this.

Yes, I'm familiar with Fred Poirier's work (he's a legend!!) Decent Sampler now has basic EXS importing support. Just go to the Developer Tools menu and find the Import EXS or SFZ File... option.
