<control> type="float" - what does it do?

In the <control> element, there is a parameter called type=, that is always set to "float"... What does it do? There is no mention of it in the 1.3.8 format documentation...
If you set it to "int" then everything still seems to work...

Nothing, right now, but the intend was to add other formats such as Hertz or dB that will allow for other units to be displayed.
