Description
A vintage Yamaha keyboard recovered from a charity shop in early 2020, sampled and processed through a mixture of mediums and effects to create expressive and versatile textures, with a distinct lo-fi feel.
The sounds of this keyboard have been sampled via microcassette dictaphones to create a distant, mellotron-esque sound, through the keyboard’s on-board sampling mic for a crushed, distorted digital feel, and through reverbs and delays for lush soundscapes. Also included are patches made using the vocal sampler, which create undulating drones and swarms, full of gritty distortion.
All of these techniques come together to capture the unique and complex character of a relic.

Great reproduction. I found the cassette samples introduced a bit too much white noise for my tastes – may have enjoyed keeping the dirt and analog artifacts in without quite as much hiss. The color treatment of the controls feels a bit backwards (dark color on light knob backgrounds), but this is minor. Overall quality addition to any library looking for retro vibes at a very competitive price.
